A dental cleaning appointment at our Chestermere clinic combines a thorough exam with a professional cleaning to help maintain good oral health at any age. We are committed to making your visit comfortable and clear, welcoming families and new patients at every stage of life. Here’s what to expect during a dental cleaning appointment with us, and how we make dental care accessible and stress-free.

What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning Appointment

Your first visit is all about your comfort and setting the stage for a positive experience. We take time to understand your health and your goals before anything happens in the chair.

At the start of your appointment, we review your medical history and any concerns you may have, so you feel at ease.

A thorough exam includes a complete check of your teeth, gums, and soft tissues to assess oral health and spot any issues early. We may recommend digital X-rays if your dentist needs a closer look.

Your professional cleaning includes removing plaque and tartar from areas your toothbrush cannot fully reach, followed by polishing your teeth.

We explain your options and create a personalized care plan that suits your needs.

Is a Dental Cleaning Comfortable?

Many patients find cleanings comfortable, but if your teeth or gums are sensitive, tell your hygiene team and we will adjust our approach.

A regular cleaning focuses on removing plaque and tartar above the gum line. When gum disease care is needed, a deep cleaning called scaling and root planing treats below the gum line.

Our Welcoming, Judgment-Free Environment

We make our Chestermere dental clinic welcoming, relaxed, and judgment-free, with gentle care for all ages and flexible hours.

Cleanings for Every Age and Need

We care for the whole family, including young children, teens, adults, and seniors.

Young children benefit from gentle early visits to build trust, with preventive care such as fluoride treatments and sealants offered.

Teens and adults use checkups to monitor changes, plan for Invisalign or whitening, and maintain oral health. Seniors can review fillings, gum health, and denture fit at their cleaning appointments.

How Often Should You Book a Cleaning?

Most patients visit every six months, but we recommend a schedule based on your gum health and cavity risk.

People with gum disease may need periodontal maintenance visits as often as every three to four months.

Nervous About Your Cleaning? We Can Help

If you feel nervous or anxious about your visit, let us know, we will adjust the pace, explain each step, and discuss comfort options.

What Happens After Your Cleaning?

After your cleaning, continue brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily.

It is normal to experience mild gum tenderness or a little bleeding after a cleaning, especially if it has been a while since your last visit. Follow any care plan we give you and book your next recall appointment before you leave. If you notice swelling, lasting pain, fever or bleeding that does not stop after your cleaning, call us.

Dental Cleanings for Children

If it’s your child visiting, we explain each step in simple words, go at your child's pace, and welcome parents to stay close during the appointment.

We offer preventive treatments for children such as fluoride, sealants, and space maintainers, and monitor for developing issues like crowding.
